Sick

Not only am I sick, but I realized that I have been following the wrong week for my training schedule. Today, Sunday, 25 Feb 2007, I'm supposed to be running a race. Ha!

I really need my meds.

Magical Hat Dance

For New Year's this year we went to the Children's Museum's Early countdown. The Bun had a blast making things like his hat and dancing to live music.

We got home at a decent hour and went to bed early. What's not to like?

Break Fast

Friday, 23 Feb 2007 I was on a Ze Frank Fast. I had lots of stuff to get to and I knew if I spent time watching the show or visiting the ORG, I would get none of it done.

PK and I had a date night for an early celebration of my Birthday. One thing we did together was head to the gym to work out.

I thought I was suffering from asthma when in fact it was the begining of a really nasty cold. Just listen to me wheeze as I round the turns at the track.

Outside Chance

There's been a break in the weather. Will I be able to run outside or am I doomed to yet another trip to the gym?

Gratitude

Today is a rest day. The Bun is at a friend's house and I'm doing real-time stuff. When I do everyday mundane things my mind wanders.

I used to love strong back/weak mind type work when I was in school because it allowed me the freedom to create

twenty-three

That was last week's secret word. Twenty-three. Now, the video for this week's secret word did not turn out the way I wanted it to. The key element was just out of frame. You can either wait until next week for the word to be revealed or I will allow the person who submitted the secret word to reveal it.

Cam Cam Dance

Consumatron is right, the track at the gym is like a prison. Still I try to make it interesting. neostatic suggested I let some of my insanity show. Why not?

On Track

After a couple of days on hiatus to finish V4R, I'm back on my training schedule. Today was an average day. That's good 'cause I was worried about getting injured. The last day I ran was Tuesday I think.

If I can't remmeber right off then it's been too long. Eugene here I come. 70 days til the race.

Blocks

Time for another Magical Saturday. This one is from the Little Bun vault. I've wanted to cut it together for a while now.

The music is from track #9 off of, Broken Music Box, featuring her highness.

Your Turn

V4R is complete. I'm only one guy with one vision. Many contributed to the project in what I hope is an appropriate tribute to Ray, the man who inspired us all.

Now it's your turn. If you like, go here and download the source material and make your own Video 4 Ray. There's more clips and pics in the Video for Ray project folder in the ORG. Don't forget the SRDD call-ins where lots of people sang along with Ray.

Show me what you got.

Secret Word?

I am really not liking running at the gym. It was 5° F today. Not the kind of weather to take the Little Bun along in the jogging stroller. Once more to the gym I suppose.

Today's episode is an experiment in interactivity. Amazing how this internet thing can do that interactive thing. I asked a friend, "What's the secret word?" Then I incorporated it into today's show.

Can you guess what the secret word is?

How about you suggest your own secret word. Maybe I'll use it in a future episode.

Window to the Soul

We are getting our windows replaced. The Little Bun has been very interested in what Steve and Tom have been doing. They make a lot of noise and have sharp tools. They are also fixing our broken windows.

Instinct

A dark hallway. The lights are out. A tall person approaches. I can't see their face. My heart begins to race. Do I prepare for battle or look for an escape?

Sledding

Last winter PK and I took the Little Bun out sledding for the first time. Of course I brought my camera along.

Going Deep

Most of us have two functioning eyes with which to see. Each eye sees something slightly different. By putting those two images together, the brain can compare and contrast the information resulting in a picture with depth and perspective.

With only one image, we may not correctly percieve how far away that stop sign is.

Running Home

Some say we can end homelessness. I'm going to agree. So the question is how? I'm going to do my part to help find out.

Speed Machine

For anyone who has run any distance of significance you know about gas problems. Running makes a person toot. Another reason to dislike running on a treadmill is that there's people within arms reach of me. Out on the open road I feel fine being, uh, natural. I can even let one slip when I'm on the track.

When there's super-grandpas to the left of me and severly scented Susies to the right, I must suffer gastral pain. Combine that with my fear of falling and I'm not that happy about running on a machine.

On the plus side, I did learn my average heart rate was 166 and I supposedly burned 546 calories during my 45 minute run. That's a small consollation considering all the other grief I had to endure.

I couldn't set the time higher than 30 minutes. My wife tells me that's because people are usually waiting to use the machines. And people think I'm crazy for running in sub-zero weather!

There's all these arbitrary numbers to set before running. What does an elevation of 2.5 mean? How about a speed of 6.6? Give me some hills and let me run as fast as I can up them and tell me when it's been 45 minutes!

Inflatable Castle

How long does something last? When will everything about us be dust? Forgotten? The original Declaration of Independence is deteriorating. The pyramids are slowly returning to the desert.

We could all attempt to build more permanent structures but what's the use? The home I live in is 100 years old this year. That's a long time but not for a house built in Massachusets. They've got some dwellings that date back to our country's birth. Still those New England cottages got nothing on those in England. What about Stonehenge?

It seems everything we construct these days or less permanent and more fragile.

I Froze My Butt Today

Yes. Literally. I froze my butt today. No, I didn't get frost bite but I did have ice form on my rear end at about 80 minutes into my long run. Took a good 15 minutes to get the feeling back after I got home.

There was nobody out. Not surprising. Kinda eerie though. During my run I kept searching the landscape for an open business. If I got hurt I'd have had to of gotten inside right away or some serious damage could have been done to my person.

I just heard on the news that some winter sports event was cancelled today because of the cold and low windchill. Still, I did see two other runners during my run. I also saw hockey players and some broomball players.

Want Camera

The Little Bun from a year ago. I had just purchased and hacked my first CVS camera. Thirty dollars is the perfect price point for a cam to give to a 2 year old.

This is the Bun's first video. I love the gleeful abandon he shows by swinging the camera around wildly and squeeling

Watch the Video

Hooray! Nap time is back.

That's how I was able to create today's latest edition. I'm pushing the outter limits to what a $75 complete editing system will yield. More on that later.

The Little Bun is all about questions these days. I thought about filming the follwing scenario during my 75 minute run yesterday. He has ∞ questions to ask.

Today I've got a 45 minute run ahead of me but no batteries. That's a trip to the store and gym with the Bun. I did promise him we'd do whatever he wanted to do today. Small consolation since I've been taking him all over South Minneapolis lately previewing potential preschools for him.

S.C.A.A.S.A. Happy Birthday Song

Screw Corporate America Attribution Share Alike Happy Birthday Song

After watching "The Corporation" I learned that the traditional "Happy Birthday" song is corporately owned. If anyone wants to use that song in their movie or program, they have to pay a fee. Seriously.

I have decided to create a new Happy Birthday song. One that is free for anyone to use, commercially, publicly or otherwise. Spread the word. This could catch on. A song like Happy Bithday belongs to everyone.

Today was a 75 minute run at the gym. It was interesting to see all the people come and go. Some stayed for a while. Others only made it around the track a couple of times. They were there on their lunch breaks I assume. This is what 75 minutes looks like.
