Start 2 Finish

The live moblogging didn't go so well. Only three videos posted and one was the wrong one. It was an interesting experiment.

By about mile 19 I was still running at a good speed so I ditched the cell phone and motored on in. I ended up setting a new personal record.

M848 & M893

Lemme See Here...I made it safely to Eugene, OR. Luke picked me up at the airport in a borrowed car. A quick stop at the Hilton to pick up our race packets. We got our race shirts there which is a new one on me. I'm used to having to finish a race before getting my shirt.

My watch recently lost its wrist band. I had been carrying around the watch face in my pack. For the race I wanted a new watch. A couple of stops later and I found an acceptable one for $15 at Rite-Aid. I really wanted to support the local five and dime. Though they sold all kinds kitsch, there were no watches to be had.

Customized Racing BibA pretty casual evening after a hectic morning of canceled flights and reconfigured travel plans. If anyone is interested in crawling out of bed early tomorrow morning, the race starts at 7am. Luke's number is M848 and mine is M893.

For those cheering us on remotely, I'll be posting live updates from race:

Alaska?

The reaccomodated flight on United was for tomorrow. After a few more phone calls I got it all figured out. I'm leaving via Alaska Airlines via Northwest Airlines via United Airlines via Orbitz.

Short story: I get in to Eugene, OR tonight at 4:30 p.m.

Minor Hitch

My flight to Eugene has been cancelled.

I'm leaving on a later flight and still getting in the day before the race. Hope Luke can pick up my race kit for me.

I don't want to talk about it now

I've never met anyone who was happy to be homeless.

Walter

B-roll footage shoot for my documentary resulted in a happy accident. Right at the end of capturing some time lapse of a building, Walter approached me. We started out talking about the Sears warehouse and retail store.

Soon conversation changed to what Walter was doing now. The video cuts out so I don't have the rest of his story on tape. He had a grocery sack tucked under his arm. He told me that he was headed over to a garage to spend the night. The owner told him it was OK for him to crash there.

Walter said he was enrolled in some classes at Urban Ventures. He told me he was trying to get his life back together and to get off the streets. I asked him what I could do to help him. He asked me to pray for him. We both did right then and there in the parking lot of the Midtown Exchange at 9:30 at night.

I have no idea where Walter is today. I am happy to have met him and heard his story.

Only a few days remain before the Eugene Marathon. Go the distance with me and contribute to Running Home.

Taper

The Eugene Marathon is just days away. I'm running fewer minutes as I taper off. Oddly enough it creates a yearning in me. I want to run more since I'm used to a higher level of activity. It helps create anticipation for the big race.

Son Shine

On this Earth Day, the whole family worked in the yard. The little bun turned over some compost, tilled some soil and sowed grass seed.

on the go - director's cut

Here's the longer version of "On The Go" now that I've figured out how to send larger files from my mobile phone via email.

On The Go

This is a mobile video blog test. I am hoping to post periodic, mini-episodes during the Eugene Marathon. Right now my multimedia upload limit is set to 300KB which works out to be a 15 second video 160 x 120 in size.

Maybe it's all more trouble than it's worth. I figure it's worth a try.

The Game of TAG

About a year ago I started a game called TAG. I sent my favorite CVS single-use camcorder to a friend Mica and asked her to record 5 minutes and then pass the camera along to someone else. The Camera made it from NYC to Virginia to Belgium to Canada to Pennsylvania back to me. Check out the Flickr set for the mailer box here. Below are four of the five entries.

Deliverance

On Friday, 13 April, 2007 I got a special package from Lady Leary. It contained the Quack Attack flag from her toboggan race. Soon it will become the prop in the new Sports Racer Project, Infinite Play.

Sen Yoga

The Bun's longtime friend, Sen, had him over for a special birthday party last week. After opening a gift, some lunch and yummy cake both relaxed with a short yoga session.

This is one of the first instances where the Bun has participated in collaborative rather than parallel play. Big milestone for those not in the know.

If everybody did it

If we all shunned outsiders, would the world be a better place? What if we all took whatever we wanted when we wanted? What if everyone picked up just one piece of trash?

Community Assets

This footage is from an interview I conducted with Hussein Samatar for my documentary, Building at a Crossroads. Recent events have led to a lot of uninformed statements about Muslims living in Minnesota and about the religion of Islam.

While Mr. Samatar is talking with me in reference to the rehabilitated Lake Street Sears Warehouse building now known as the Midtown Exchange, there are elements of it that are very informative. For example Mr. Samatar explains how Islamic financing works.
